Paris

Paris

As I was leaving Venice, at the airport I met a very nice couple from Brazil Aline and Manuel... we had a great visit and this turned into a new friendship.. the plane flight to Paris was 1:15 and was a good flight upon arrival, I found my bags met up with my new friends and caught the train into P aris.. they were staying near my Hotel but a few Metro stops away so we parted to chat on facebook if we could meet up..I settled into my room and was content to just feel out where I wanted to go the next few days.. I fianally had internet again in my room which made me happy that I did not have to go out with my ipod to find places to communicate... Upon arrival at the Hotel I had asked the girl at the desk if the rooms were quiet, she knodded and said oui yes, I asked if there was a elevator to take up to the floor as my baggage was heavy.. oui yes well to my amazement there was a elevator if you would like to call it that I was able to squeeze my bag in and then just get my feet in and bedt over my bag I pushed the button to close the door behind me it closed but just barely , I held my breath to go up as I thought if i breathed to hard it may not stay closed.. it stoppped on my floor, and opened my room door was right there while still in the elevator I reached accross and unlocked my door, opened it and then was able to get my baggage off the elevator..that is how close they were ... it would have been hard to get the baggage off had it not been my room was open to allow me the extra room to get out... well back to the quiet room...???

Quiet it was not , everytime someone inthe hallway opened there door it was like they were coming in my room. there was a child in the room next to mine who made these noises continually like brrrrrr eeeeaaahhh and bbbwwrr it was like he was in my room... the bed was like waht kids sleep on at camp.. there was a old radiator in the corner which was freezing cold, I turned the knob and heard the water running , It kept running and running like a left on tap but the room eventually did warm up.. there was no hot water in the shower, just medioker warm.kinda cool..no where near hot..ahh but that is the good part.. as I looked out my window to view my neighbourhood which was now night time was lit up with the signage of red light district signs.. what had I gotten myself into I thought... but this was one of the upscale neighourhoods..believe it or not..!!!

I had decided that I would go on the walking tour in the morning, so I got ready and caught the Metro to St.Micheal's fountain.. there on the tour I met up with Lauren Michelle a young girl who Lindsey and I had met at the Bleinhem House in London, we walked around Paris and the guide Brian told us many stories about the buildings and history of Paris..Notre Dame,Louvre, Champs Elysees,Grand Palace and many more.. the tour ended around 3 ans Lauren and I caught the Metro to Anvers stop which is just below Sacre Coueur (the big white chirch on the highest hill in Paris) we climbed all the steps which I should have counted but did not.. all I know is that I am not 20 anymore... e met up with Breezy Lauren's friend whom I also met in London, we then walked around back to see a square filled with artist and little resteraunts.. we alked till we found a bakery as Lauren wanted a Bagette and then we ended up down on a main street where we then walked to Moulan Rouge.. another Red Light district..we then decided to go to Tromphe Etoile, there was a special service going on at the time with military from all the different countries..they had a special ceremony for the unknown soldier at the eternal flame.. Breezy left to go to the Eiffel tower as she had a metro pass and Lauren and i waited and then walked to the Eiffel tower we were fairly close when the twinkle light came on .. the are on for the first 5 minutes of every hour after dusk.. I was able to get some nice shots of the tower lit up that night.. I said good-bye to Lauren as she was going back to London I stayed and took a few more photos and then the couple friends from Brazil showed up... we caought the train back to Jauvers station and went to McDonalds for supper.. I Love there deluxe potatos ( they are like raosted potatos real good) then I walked back to my hotel which on the map looked like a couple blocks turned into closer to 10.. I was very tired and had a had a very long day..

Today I had decided to go and visit more thouroly some of the places pointed out to me by the gude..

I was very tired and had a had a very long day..

Today I had decided to go and visit more thoroughly some of the places pointed out to me by the guide..more to come later to tired to write now..

well the next day I started out at 10:30 caught the train to central Paris and just wondered around ,taking photos as I went stopping in Latin Quarter and having my firsr French Crepe.. I went with the apple one with a little sugar and cinnomon. it was hot and good as the day was a bit cooler.. I had a mission now to find a creape spatula for speading the batter and a flat flipper to flip them.. I went to Notre Dame and then made my way to the Effiel tower for some daytime shots..I basically just looked at things and took pictures ..it was not too eventful of a day..But it made me tired just the same.. I was thinking about going to Euro Disney the next day so I thought I would see how I felt in the morning.. I had a real good sleep and slept in so I then decided not to go to Disney adn I was just as happy because it was quite cold out..I did more site seeing and spent the day looking for keepsakes to take home .. made it to the Louvre Musee it is soo big there I think I was on Artwork and sculpture overload by the time I was done..made my way back the Effiel tower to try and get some more night shots.. I frose but I was quite happy with the shots I got.. It was late and I took the Metro to Jauner staition again to the McD's and facebooked my friends from Brazil ..the showed up and we made our way back to their hotel where we had a visit as they were leaving the next day.. caught the metro back to Gard du Nord as I had a all day passs this time and then settled in for the evening.. this was my last day in Paris as I had decided to go back to Switzerland a day early as I could not seem to get a train on Sunday .. I did not take my camera with me today I just took my little point and shoot one .. what a differance not hauling around a five pound camera on your shoulder or back.. I walked around the neighbourhood I was staying in and made my way to Sacre Coure and the many shops.. it was a nice day just browsing , stopped by a bakery and had my first almond crossant it was to say the least YUMMY.. then I browsed somemore and made my way to a little cafe where I had Quiche and fries for late lunch, early supper..It was OK but not real good.. wandered till almost dark then went back to my room to pack up and get to bed for my trip to Lausanne tomorrow...

Venice

Venice

Jan 12th 2011

I arrived in Venice closr to 10pm I took the bus from the airport which was only 3 euros, then I had to catch a waterbus whick was 6.50 euros as I did not know where I was going yet and it was at night.. I found out lster it was about 19 blocks or so but when you are not familair with the place you do as you are directed.. anyway after the boat docked i had to find my hotel .. I knew the general direction to go the streets were so quiet it was little allyways of cobblestone and doorways, I finally found my way to a main street. Leanardo I was on the right street now and found a coupke italian Ladies who helped show me where the hotel was.. It was not a hotel as we know at home this hotel had a small sign that let you know it was there a glass door to the entry a entry amoungst shops and resturants ..very quaint little spot.. I signed in and was shown my room.. aaahhh so much bigger than the one in ROme I could actually move around in this one without touching the walls it overlooks a small courtyard.. and is very quiet here.. as I discovered in the morning the sleepy little street I had walked down last night was now alive with fruit and vegtable vendors as well as many other vendors with thier carts filled with cloths masks and soviners..it was very busy, with people out and about taking in all there was to offer.. I went to the breakfast room that morning it was three flights of stairs up to it.. they do not have elevators here either.. I had a nice breakfast of juice ,yogurt, and a crosannt with cream cheese and cherry jelly..

I then got ready for my first day here in Venice and wanted to explore my new city.. it was foggy and the day was abit gloomy I made my way back to the bus station to familiarise myself with my route back when I leave ... I found many neat buildings and shops to busy my day, I found a map which made things alot easier.. and I could plan where I may go next.. the streets here are very narrow in someplaces and then there are these massive piassa squares the second day I went to St. Marc square often refered to as pegion squre as the pegions flock there and are fed by the many tourists and people even have there pictures taken withthem .. the churh therenis incredable.. unfortunately it was having work done on it so I did not get a picture of the whole place and its magificance.. I made my way down the narrow steets through the shops and piassas back to the hotel.. every one here walks and sometimes that can be hard if you have baggage as there are stairs over all the canals that you have to haul your luggae over there are three briges back to the bus stop or I can do the one bridge near the hotel and the huge bridge by the train station it has close to 35 stairs up it .. I have seen people struggling with thier luggage going up and down even older people..and a guy with a big suitcase and a snowboard(not sure whathe had that here for must be a stopover) but everyone here has the same problem the stairs they have these big carts for getting goods to the stores but often the boats dock near the stores to unload the goods to the guy with the cart .. but I have seen a guy with what looked like a small washing machine on a trolly cart hauling it up and over.. it sets you back a few years here .. the other day I saw some small kids out on push scooters and bikes ( these were little kids) but not a single big bike here either..you think they would have made the provision for a ramp like stair on the stairs to make it easier to things over..anyway I have jumbled a bit of all my days here in Venice into one ..as I do not have internet in my room.. I had one day of sunshine here and was able to get some real nice pictures..I Love the gondolas in the canals and all the old buildings here..but I also Love my home in Candada..and am so thankful for being able to experiance all these wonderful places but there is still no place like home..off to Paris next whooo hooo

Rome

I arrived in Rome after a not so great night at the Airport in Geneva, our flight landed around 9:45 and I collected my luggage and made my way to a shuttle , the guy told me it would take me most of th way into the city , but then I would have to go to the metro and get the rest of the way , ... so I did and when I got off the shuttle I made my way to the Metro a lady helped me fond the right train , she also warned me about pick pockets and the Gypsy's to watch out for them as I had baggage and that made me a target.. I made sure I had everything secure and made my way to Termani station.. from there I had to find my hotel , the street here are real confusing .. but I finally found my hotel , there are so many hotels here and pizzaria's I was so tired I fell asleep for a few hours and then I made myself get up and go have some supper and walk around..so that I would sleep that night I went to a Basilica Maria degil Angeil it was crumbling down on the outside but on the inside it was magnificent.. the fresco painting on the ceilings and the marble colums took your breath away..I then wentplazza delia repubblica before making my way back to the hotel for the evening.. stopped at a local store and bought a few snacks for the evening had a bite to eat and came back watched a little glee and then went to bed..
January 10th 2011
got up and got ready for my day in Rome had breakfast downstairs and then went out walking to find the ruins of old Rome .. it ook a bit of going the wrong way then I fianlly found the colloseum..and the the old city and the forum and what is left of the first city of Rome.. then I made my way past many amazing buildings and landmark ones too.. saw and took pictures of everything..got in trouble twice for trying to take pictures of one a door knob and another one a scroll on building that happened to be police staitions I guess anyway the military has a strong pressence here.. came back to the hotel after having the most amazing McDonalds buger ever it was on a chibati bun and had wild greens and provalone cheese.. it was good.. my feet are a bit sore so I going to rest for the evening and get a fresh start tomorrow and make my way to Vatican City..chow bella
January 11th 2011
well today strted out fairly good I got ready and walked to the Metro , first thing I did was got on the wrong underground .. the guy yold me go to A and I did but he did not telll be to go red not blue line .. I caught it quikly and took metro back to the termini then I got on the red train and of couse I was going south instead of north.. got off and got on right one.. made it to the stop and walked to Vatican Museum . I was wanting to see the sistine chapel and the famous paintings of Micheal Angelo.. what I was not prepared for was all the other fasinating works on the way there.. the walls and ceilings all painted with amasing works.. the sculptures and details made me jump around on the inside as a artist to see such great works was breathtaking.. I toured the whole museum and had to go back to the entry to retrieve my tripod as they would not allow it in the building as you are not allowed to put anyhting down on the floor.. they did not allow you to take any pictures in the sistine chappel either as it is a holy place but the funny thing is all the stuff they sell there is pictures from inside the chappel and Micheal Angelos work so if is so Holy they are sure making alot of money off it..they took pictures.. oh well I got to see it in person.. i could not imagine going there in the busy season as it was enough people and this is not even there busy time..I made it to St.pauls squre and saw the Vatican it is spectacular too.. so I was in another country today as the Vatican is it's own country.. did not get my passport stamped though come to think of it they never even checked me at customs coming here so i did not get a Italian stamp .(sad face) I then made my way to the cadtel st Angelo and across the bridgge back on my way to piassa nueavo going to try a resturaunt recommended by a friend.. the piassa was amasing again .. the center fountain beautifull there were many artists in the square selling threre work.. the resturaunt was closed and I was hungry so I was disapointed to miss it.. I worked my way back towards my hotel .. getting in the wrong direction once again.. but I was able to try some wonderful white chocolate icecream.. delicious..to say the least. my feet had had about all they could by now and I was no where near where I needed to be so I found out which bus to take to get closer to my hotel and hopped on it .. so I am back at my hotel now resting my poor feet(what happens is that you are not walikng on flat sidewalks here and so eventhough I have good shoes for home on they do not help here as your foot goes from side to side trying to walk on the cobblestone streets.. my left fooot the one i have the most trouble with at home is the one bothering me here too..)so I am taking a rest before I go and find some supper as I did not have lunch and breakfst was small and along time ago..I feel like everyone is looking at me here is it because I am not wering a heavy winter parka like them or is it cause I am a bigger woman than they are? things here are made for smaller people that is for sure..well ciao bella for now.

Lausanne Switzerland

Well it has been a while since i wrote on the blog as I am eithr to tired or have not got any internet..lets see Lindsey and arrived in Geneva after a short flight from Londongot our luggae and went to find the YWAM staff.. we could not find them anywhere so we were fortunate enought o have had access to some internet at a little snack shop in the train staition and Lindsey was able to skype phone them..they had a couple of people at eh airport but Lindsey had not sent them when she was arriving so they just happened to be waiting for someone on a later flight than us.. I was going to go to Montreux to a BnB but I had written to Astra earlier and had asked if I was allowed to stay at the base .. so they had a hospitality room set up for me and waiting .. it ws so nice they had a fridge full of beverages and a basket of cheese and jams yogurt and in my room was a basket of fruit and chocolate and snacks and on my bed was fresh towels and a big Lindt chocolate bar.. they useually havethe hospitallity house for guest speakers but they were so happy to have a Mom come over they let me stay there.. the next day January 6th was rainy and grey so i spent it mostly just relaxing and getting some of my later travels booked.. had lunch with Linds at the base and then layed down for a nap and missed supper but that was OK..
January 7th 2011
got up and ready and took the local bus into Lausanne with the help of dear Astra the girl from Britain who works in hospitality, i went to se the Cathedral and then walked to the next Metro station and then went to the main train station where I thought I may try McDonalds but upon looking at their prices 12.49 SF for a meal which is over 13 canadian I opted for a small burgar which still was over priced.. I whent down on the monorail to the lake front and walked around and went to the Olympic museum there..came back bought myself a few things for a snack.. then made my way back up the mountain on the train.. got back to the YWAM base had supper with Lindsey and then went back to m y room for the night..
JANUARY 8th 2011
got up and get ready to go to Montreux onthe train went to Lausanne and caught the train and whe I arrived I bought a ticket to ride the small trian up the mountain Rochers-de-Naye it was about a one hour train ride up the mountain, I was surprised at the lack of snow.. whe we reached the top there was a viewing place and they had some mongolian huts that people an stay in for the evening they smelling a bit like lama.. and they had these tiny little table and chairs inside.as well as beds for you to sleep on when I entered the restuant area it had a pungent smell of wrotten cheese as I could see people were having fondue but I do not think I could get past the smell... then I went outside and there was such a cold wind it was even hard for me to stand.. I did take a few pictures it was a beautiful view from up there.. road the little trian back down which I think was scarrier than riding up he had the brakes on full time I think..went back to the base and had supper with Lindsey ,went back to my room and packed up as she was real tired from her first day of snow boarding in the Swiss Alps. she had a cramped muscle in her leg again.. so not the best day for her..
I caught the bus into town and to the train station where i caught the train back to Geneva airport I was quiet tired by now as I had been up since 4am .. I found a bench to stay on for the night as I could not check in till 6 am so I was one of the lucky ones and had aplace to lay down other were sleeping in chairs over night and some put chairs together, and layed on them.. I tried my best to get sleep but it ws hard..

London

Well we arrived in London safe and sound , but the trip had taken longer than expected. We waited at the airport in Edmonton for 2.5 hours waiting to board the plane Lindsey and I found some comfy chairs to sit .. the plane was in the gate the whole time and the plane was set to leave on time we found our seats and were set to leave, but leave we did not .. there were problems with the toilets ... ths was discovered after we had all been boarded on the plane.. so they went to fixing them , this took over one hour to do.. so sitting in our cramped little seat for a extra hour was how the trip started then the had to deice the plane so this then took us another 20 minutes ..the plane did not arrive in time for us to have time to meet up with our friends from England but it did arrive and that was the main thing.. upon entering Heathrow terminal 3 Lindsey and i noticed a unpleasant odor..welcome to London.. we proceeded to get our baggage then make our way to terminal 5 where we were going to store Lindsey's snowboard and extras that we would not need to haul in to London with us...

as you can see I had one very tired little girl.....we bought a couple travel cards and then made our way to the bnb in greater London that i had prebooked..for us.. Our hosts Agri and Roger have made our stay here very comfortable..there place is just 5 minute walk from the underground train(Tube as they call it here) it costs 7gbp about $10 a day for a all day pass... you can get on and off all you want and is the best way to get around London I have put the map on here so you can see the complex underground system here in London

we were on the Northerlin and get off at East Finchley..... Our first day we arrived at the Bleinhem House at about 2:30 where we went to our room and then had a juice and then a much needed nap.. we slept till about 7:30 and then got ready and went for supper about a 10 minute walk from here..we both had fish and chips Haddock it was some of the best fish I had ever ate.. we returne to our room and then fell back asleep.. waking up in the middle of the night and not able to get back asleep I finally dozed off and almost missed breakfast.. after breakfast Lindsey fell back asleep again..for a few hours ..wethen got ready and went into london on the tubeto the Embankment and walked around the London eye.. across London bridge by Big Ben and then went and found a little place to have Newyears supper..I tried the local food (NOT A GOOD IDEA) it is called the ploughman's board ..consisting of bread a duck egg, ucky chutney picled onion, cheese that was good a pork pie but it was cold amd was more like spam the chips were good though.. they had pegion on the menu which creeped Lindsey out . she order fish and chips again a safe order..the two meals were over $30 not worth it at all..

then we walked around and found a play to go to it was very funny .. a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock movie 39 steps.. what made it funny is they had only four people play all the roles..and all the special effects they would adlib them ..it was very good.. but sitting made me more tired .. we got out of the play around 10 and walked towards piccadilly but it was so crowded there wer police officers everywhere for crowd control later .. we walked towards London Eye but were told the tube staition closed at 11:45 and would not open again till 3am I could not stay awake that long so we did not stay for the fireworks we made it back to the bnb and were able to watch them on tv.. sorry we missed the in real but the crowds were gonna be a gong show to get home..that is it for day one and two....
The 1st of january 2011
we had only booked in two nights at the Bleinhem house adn we were to be heading up north to Liverpool, but never make plans to far in advance on a trip like this..as Lindsey was so Jet lagged she did not wish to travel there, so I asked if we could stay at the house the rest of the time in London, Agri (the hostess ) said the rooms were all full except a tiny little room she kept for single guests in emergencies... she showed me the room it was not even as wide as my king sized be at home (oh how i love that bed) but anyway,I asked her if there ws anyway we cound have a matress for the floor and that Lindsey and I would be so happy just to have a place to stay.. she must have thought me crazy...but she agreed and would set up the room for us. I was so releaved as to not having to find another place in London.as they can be very expencive..
we packed up all our belonngings from our garden view room and moved into the (what she calls the )Harry Potter room ..( for any of you that have seen the movie ,which I had not his room was this tiny little room under the stairs..after we had settled our belonging we got ready for our day out in London, it was grey and over cast again go figure. headed to London on the tube and ended up by the London tower bridge and London tower.the tower was closed as it was a holiday we walked around just looking at sites they we took the tube to wherever it was going and wound up at the Victoria street station it is a old train staition with what looks like a old town square with a roof built overtop of it , there were a couple theaters down ther so I went and got us tickets to the Musical Billy Elliot we had a couple of hours to kill so we walked to Buckingham palace it was already dark out so there were not as many people araound as there is during the day.. we then went back to the train station as Lindsey was craving McDonalds of all things so we ate athere and then went to alittle shop and browsed around at all the unique food they have here.. bought ourselves a couple of treats and then went to the Musical..it was very good the kids were so good in it such talent. we then caught the tube back to our BnB...The 2nd of January during breakfast we visited with Breezy and Lauren two girls from California who are in London for a month doing a project on street art Breezy only 22 has been doing photography for a living and has taken pictures of a few Christian band sand designs their album covers and has even been the officail photographer on tour with groups in Europe to I was able to get a few hints form her.. they told us that there was a Christmas Wonderland at Hyde park and it was over tomorrow so we finished our breakfast and wewe headed to Hyde Park I am not sure if this is the place where DrJeckyl did his thing but we never saw anything about him there..the Christmas wonderland had a trade fair and food section .. then it had a whole amusement park set up with the most amasing old fashioned rides something you may have seen back in the 20's 30's 40's era they were so colorful and whimsical looking .. we walked around there for a few hours then headed towards Wesminster Abby way off in the distance.. we walked by Buckingham Palace again in the daylight (way more people) walked down the road the Royal family takes for parades then off to Wesmminster Abby they would not let us in as it was Sunday and no tours were on and it was to early for the church service so we then waled by Parliment .. some of the most amasing architecture ever...then past Big Ben along the water front in front of the London Eye (it was too late to go on it again) then we made our way to the underground and took the tube back home .. Linds was tired of walking and so was I frankly..we got some chinese take out for supper and went back to our room ..
January 3rd 2011
Lindsey and I had woke up at 2am and could not get back to sleep , it is so frustraiting as I know I will be bagged later...I finally decided to get went to breakfast , did a little visiting with Breezy Lauren ,Elisabeth all from the states and Enrique from Spain ( he is a teacher and lives in the Canary Island but he is here to learn English as he said they have to have English now to teach) he says his head hurts from all the work he had been doing trying to speak in English .. he is quite funny...Lindsey was too tired to even come for breakfast.. I asked her what she wanted to do and she said Mom I do not want to walk anywhere today .. my feet hurt. So I went out and walked around the area we had been staying in and there are some of the nicest houses in this area Mansions I would call them.. I walked over three miles and came back to see if Lindsy felt any better.. she was still tired .. I layed down and fell asleep for a couple hours and Lindsey had fallen asleep and did not want to get up but I knew if she did not she would not sleep that night...
went out to the store bought us some things for supper came back to the room and watched some movies..I was ready for bed that night for sure..
January 4th 2011 our last full day in London ( we cannot seem to manage to get down for breakfst ill 10 each day no wonder we don't get much done during the short daylight hours).. but we talked to Breezy and Lauren and decided to get to Abby road together and the train staition for Harry Potters 9 3/4 Elisabeth and Enrique were going to try and go to the Lion King so they were hunting on the internet for tickets.. we got ready and out the door but is was already afternoon we headed to kings Cross and the girls found ther platform 4 and then the 9 3/4 .. we then got on the underground and went to Abby Road ( the famous crosswalk the beatles have on there album..) got a few snapshots and then the two American girls were frozen ( it was a little chilly)..so they went back home ...Linds and I headed to Oxford street ( the big shopping street in London) and walked around some of the high end shops walked into Harrods but do not even think I could afford the air in there..haha... we then walked through China town wish I had been there in more daylight I coulda got some neat pictures.. we found a little resturanut and had supper then walked a bit more but Linds was getting real tired so we came back to our room and packed up most of our belongings and then watch a little tv before falling asleep .. I had set my alarm but forgot to set it to London time so we woke up at quarter to 9 and quikly got dressed grabbed a quick bite said our good-byes and caught the tube to Heathrow.. terminal 5 has to be one of the nicest airports I have ever been in.. caught or plane to Geneva Switzerland.....
